Public Defender Holds Meetings in Sagarejo Municipality

On July 12, 2024, Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani arrived in Sagarejo municipality and met the residents of Lambalo and Mughanlo villages of Yormuganlo community inhabited by ethnic Azerbaijanis.

In the conversation with the Public Defender, the population spoke about the main problems, among which the lack of knowledge of the state language should be mentioned separately, which significantly hinders locals’ integration and involvement in self-government. In addition, development of the central water supply system is a challenge, which creates a problem with availability of drinking water. Internal roads need to be repaired, public transport is in test mode, travel times and routes have not been officially established.

At the meeting held at the Sagarejo Democratic Engagement Center, the Public Defender spoke to the youth about the mandate of the Office and reviewed the issues reflected in the annual report on human rights and freedoms, including children's rights, harmful practices of child marriage and engagement, issues of bilingual education. He also listened to the opinions of the young people.

The Public Defender constantly holds meetings with the population of various municipalities and villages of the country, and in order to improve their rights situation, the Office addresses both local and central authorities with recommendations.
