On February 1, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani visited Kutaisi Penitentiary Establishment No. 2, where he met the director of the institution and members of the administration; he also met and talked with convicts, including those imprisoned for life.

The Public Defender viewed the residential and common spaces of the institution, the medical part, the rooms for video meetings and the digital university, where the infrastructure is currently being renovated.

The Public Defender’s Office intensively conducts monitoring in penitentiary and other types of closed institutions.
