First Deputy Public Defender Participates in Conference Dedicated to 25th Anniversary of Establishment of National Human Rights Institution of Albania

First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze participated in the conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the National Human Rights Institutionof Albania, entitled: “National and International Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights – Successful Practices and Lessons Learned”.

At the conference, the President of the Constitutional Court of Albania and the Minister of Justice of Albania spoke about the functioning of the National Human Rights Institutionand the supervision of human rights situation by them. The Head of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and the European Union Ombudsman focused on the same issue.

At the conference, former Albanian ombudsmen spoke about the history of the institution's creation, development and the overcoming of various challenges, while a representative of the Board of the European Network of Human Rights Institutions focused on the cooperation of the Albanian National Human Rights Institutionwith the Network and its importance.

Representatives of international organizations accredited in Albania, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the UN agencies emphasized cooperation and the projects they are implementing with the Albanian National Human Rights Institution.
