Public Defender's Statement on Death of 5 Minors in Fire in Saberio Village of Occupied Gali District

The Public Defender of Georgia expresses deep sorrow over the death of 5 minors in a fire in the village of Saberio, occupied Gali district, and offers his condolences to the families of the deceased children and their relatives.

This tragic incident once again demonstrates the grave challenges relating to the protection of the rights of the population living in the occupied territory of Georgia, especially vulnerable and unprotected groups.

Unfortunately, under the conditions of occupation, the lives and health of many citizens of Georgia, including children, are at risk every day. The Georgian authorities and the international community must use all available mechanisms to protect human rights in the occupied territories.
