On April 2, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani met with convicts in Rustavi Establishments Nos. 16 and 17, including those sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Public Defender inspected the facilities' infrastructure, cells and common spaces, received information about the positive changes made in recent years in Penitentiary Establishment No. 16, as well as the remaining challenges, especially in Penitentiary Establishment No. 17 regarding the conditions of the prisoners' accommodation.

During the monitoring, the Public Defender held meetings with the administration of both institutions.

The Public Defender will continue to supervise the protection of prisoners' rights in the penitentiary system.
