Public Defender Addresses Youth Agency regarding Staffing of Youth Advisory Council
On November 19, 2020, the Public Defender of Georgia submitted a recommendatory appeal to the Head of LEPL Youth Agency relating to staffing of the Youth Advisory Council.
The examination of the issue made it clear that the Council did not include representatives of any ethnic minorities, which inter alia was conditioned by certain external factors. Given the current reality, the significant challenges relating to the civic integration of ethnic minorities in Georgia and the goals of the Youth Agency, the Public Defender stressed the need for the Youth Advisory Council of the Youth Agency to be as representative as possible and to include young people, including representatives of ethnic minorities.
Based on the above, the Public Defender called on the Head of the Youth Agency to take into account the challenges relating to the participation of ethnic minorities when staffing the Youth Advisory Council or other units of the Youth Agency in the future and to take proactive steps in order to raise awareness and develop internal policy document/action plan in this direction.
