On May 22, 2023, employees of the National Preventive Mechanism of the Public Defender conducted a workshop for the students of Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, the theme of which was - "Protection of human rights in closed institutions".

The topics discussed during the workshop included the current state of the protection of human rights in the Georgian police system, penitentiary and psychiatric institutions, as well as the mandate and activities of the National Preventive Mechanism of the Public Defender of Georgia. The speakers spoke about the international human rights standards and the main findings of the 2022 report of the National Preventive Mechanism.

During the discussion held within the meeting, students had the opportunity to get answers to the issues of interest to them.
