Public Defender Meets with Representatives of Civil Society Organizations and Human Rights Defenders Working in Akhalkalaki
On November 27, 2024, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, held a meeting with representatives of the civil society organizations operating in Akhalkalaki, within the framework of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
The strengthening of the civil society sector, their needs and challenges, the current human rights situation in the municipality, gender equality, women's empowerment, youth migration and social security were the issues discussed at the meeting. The need to conduct information campaigns to raise civic awareness and to involve ethnic minorities in the decision-making process was also emphasized.
The participants in the meeting expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation with the Public Defender's Office and talked about future plans.
The event was held with the joint efforts of the Public Defender's Office and the UN Women Georgia Office. It is noteworthy that the above-mentioned event was part of the cycle of meetings that the Public Defender holds with representatives of the civil sector in the regions.
