Working Meeting with Media Representatives on Human Rights Situation in Georgia
On March 21-23, 2025, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, and Tamar Gvaramadze and Elene Ghudushauri, Deputies of the Public Defender, held a working meeting with media representatives on the situation of human rights in Georgia.
The Public Defender presented the 2024 Parliamentary Report and introduced journalists to the main topics and recommendations reflected in the document.
The state of protection of civil, political, socio-economic rights during 2024, including the right to expression, freedom of the media and freedom of assembly, as well as standards for covering assemblies, issues related to the protection of journalists' safety and realization of freedom of information were discussed at the meeting.
The protests held last year were assessed from the perspective of human rights protection. The activities of the Public Defender's Office relating to searching for/visiting detainees and documenting the condition of the injured were also discussed.
Another topic of discussion was the rights of prisoners, especially life-sentenced prisoners.
