On December 24, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani and Deputy Public Defender Irine Chikhladze visited the Kutaisi Psychiatric Clinic of the Mental Health and Addiction Prevention Center LLC and received information about the rights situation of patients in the institution.

During the visit, they inspected the physical environment of the clinic, patients' living rooms, dining area, bathrooms, yard, and spoke with patients, representatives of the institution's administration, and employees.

During the visit, special attention was paid to the overcrowding of the institution, the poor infrastructural and sanitary conditions, the lack of resources allocated for the effective management of the institution and timely provision of needs, as well as the low remuneration of support staff.

The current situation in mental health institutions represents a particular challenge, therefore, the Public Defender will continue to supervise the protection of the rights of persons placed in mental health hospitals and present relevant recommendations in parliamentary and special reports.
