Public Defender's Statement relating to Cases of Sexual Abuse of Children

The Public Defender’s Office, both on a systemic and individual level, studies the cases of child abuse, including sexual abuse, and applies to all relevant agencies to evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of administration of justice.

Considering the seriousness of the crimes of abuse of children, especially sexual abuse, it is essential to prioritize the best interests of the child in every action in this process and to take all the necessary measures in order to create a supportive environment for them and protect them from secondary victimization.

The Public Defender emphasizes that when making public statements or reporting similar cases by the media, in order to ensure the safety of children and prevent their retraumatization, it is necessary to use a child-friendly approach and to be guided by a high standard of protecting the privacy of minors and, in general, ethics.
