Public Defender Meets with Religious Leaders of Jewish Community of Georgia

On June 10, 2024, Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani visited Tbilisi Great Synagogue and met with Great Synagogue Rabbi Rakhin Murdukhashvili, Tbilisi Beit Rachel Synagogue Rabbis Avi Melech Rosenblatt, Aron Mdinaradze and Ben Zion Israelashvili, as well as the Chairman of the Union of Georgian Jews, Merab Chanchalashvili.

The special importance of centuries-old Georgian-Jewish relations and the challenges facing the Jewish community, including the issue of ownership of the synagogues operating in Georgia and other relevant issues, were discussed at the meeting. The State's restoration activities and material support to the religious and cultural heritage of the Jewish community was also noted at the meeting.

The Public Defender and the religious leaders of the Jewish community agreed on future cooperation.
