Public Defender’s Statement on Rally Ongoing on Rustaveli Avenue

The Public Defender of Georgia is watching the rally ongoing on Rustaveli Avenue.

At 17:15 on May 14, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a warning of possible dispersal of the entire rally. The Public Defender believes that after the implementation of individual measures in response to the violation of the rules of peaceful assembly and the requirements of legislation by individual protesters, there is no longer a need to disperse the entire rally.

Accordingly, the Public Defender calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs not to use special equipment against the peaceful participants in the rally and to allow them to enjoy the right to assembly guaranteed by the Constitution.
