Competition Me - Ombudsman 2017 Launched!
The competition Me – Ombudsman was launched on October 2, 2017. The competition is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and is funded by the EU project “Fight against All Forms of Discrimination in Georgia”.
The competition offers a unique opportunity to the schoolchildren aged between 13 and 18 to get acquainted with the basics of human rights and freedoms, as well as the activities of the Public Defender as a democratic institution.
The competition consists of three rounds. The first and second rounds are conducted through the internet (see Me - Ombudsman in the lower menu of the Public Defender's website - www.ombudsman.ge, while the third round will be held in the Public Defender's Tbilisi and regional offices.
Within the first round, a team of 2-2 students should answer 30 test questions no longer than 18:00, October 20, 2017; the team that correctly answers at least 20 questions will qualify for the second round.
Participants of the second round should answer relatively difficult 20 test questions from October 30 to November 10. 10 teams with the best results will qualify for the third round. In the final the teams will have to prepare a written report on a model task about human rights.
Finalists will have to arrive at a scheduled place and time (of which the teams will be informed in advance). 3 winning teams will be selected by a jury.
High culture of human rights is the main prerequisite of a full-fledged democratic state. The mentioned competition organized by the Public Defender’s Office is one of the integral parts of the spread of this culture. For achieving the universal goal, first and foremost, it is necessary to raise awareness of human rights, which will result in more effective realization of the rule of law and human rights in the country.
