On November 29, 2023, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Mathieu Mori, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

The activities carried out within the framework of the project Strengthening Participatory Democracy and Human Rights at Local Level in Georgia, as well as issues of involvement of local civil society organizations and ethnic minorities in the self-governments’ activities, were discussed at the meeting.

The Public Defender informed the General Secretary of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe of the problems related to the security of people living near the occupation line, spoke about the killings and illegal arrests of citizens of Georgia, including Tamaz Ginturi, a resident of Kirbali, and emphasized the importance of the work of international monitoring organizations.
