Public Defender Visits Persons Detained in Avchala Temporary Detention Center

On December 2, 2024, the Public Defender of Georgia visited about 20 persons, detained at the protest rally on December 1, at the temporary detention center in Avchala. According to the Public Defender, the detainees have signs of physical violence on their faces. The Public Defender saw a similar picture in the temporary detention center in Digomi as well.

“The fact is that the police often use disproportionate force when detaining protesters; people have signs of this violence on their faces. I have already called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs many times not to exceed its authority when detaining citizens, and on the Special Investigation Service to respond to such cases in a timely manner," said Levan Ioseliani.
