Special Report on Preventive Visit to Eastern Georgia Mental Health Center
On October 15 and 16, 2024, the Public Defender’s Special Preventive Group conducted a preventive visit to the Eastern Georgia Mental Health Center LLC in Surami. The purpose of the monitoring was to assess the protection of patients from ill-treatment, their access to legal remedies, health care and other services, and compliance of their accommodation conditions with international and national standards.
This report is based on the on-site assessment of the environment during preventive visits; information obtained from the documentation produced at the facility, including medical documentation; and the results obtained during individual and confidential interviews with staff and patients.
The report provides recommendations to the Minister of of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, as well as the Director of the Eastern Georgia Mental Health Center.
