Meeting with students on the issues of domestic violence

On 30th of June 2014, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia Paata Beltadze and Head of the Department of Gender Equality Ekaterine Skhiladze met with the students of School of Law “Domestic violence, protection of victims and assistance clinic”of the University of Georgia and Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University.

At the meeting, the students were informed about the activities of the Office of Public Defender, challenges of domestic violence and all possible ways of solving the problem. Particular attention was drawn to the procedures for addressing to the Office of Public Defender, rule of the procedure and the resources.

The meeting was held within the framework of joint program between Georgian Bar Association Training Center and United Nations and in cooperation with the Office of Public Defender. The project envisages awareness rising of barristers and students of legal clinic on the issues of suppression of domestic violence, protection of victims and their assistance.

Project duration is 4 months and within this period students will increase their awareness in the mechanisms of criminal, administrative and civil protection and become proficientin forensic skills as well.
