Sharing Experience in Prevention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

On November 7-9, 2016, the Public Defender of Georgia hosted Armenian colleagues to share experiences concerning the issues of violence against women and domestic violence and to discuss future cooperation.

The meeting was opened by Christian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze and Armenian Deputy Human Rights Defender Hrachya Palyan.

During the three-day meeting, representatives of the Public Defender's Office briefed the Armenian colleagues of the Public Defender’s mandate, the role of the institution in prevention of domestic violence and violence against women, proceeding rules and practice of working on individual cases.

At the Public Defender's invitation, thematic reports were presented by representatives of the State Fund of Assistance and Protection of Trafficking Victims and the Interior Ministry’s group that issues victim’s status, which is important for broadly realizing the existing problems and achievements.

The meeting between the Georgian and Armenian colleagues was organized and funded by the Council of Europe.
