Memorandum Signed between Public Defender’s Office and UNFPA Georgia

On July 13, 2023, a memorandum was signed between the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia and the Georgia Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The purpose of the said memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the parties in areas of common interest.

For many years, the United Nations Population Fund has been an important supporter of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, which strengthens the Office's activities in the direction of advocating the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and LGBT+ persons, as well as the fight against the harmful practice of early marriage.

Accordingly, the overall goal of the memorandum is to strengthen the capacity of the Public Defender’s Office, including its regional offices, to ensure the realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights and to combat the harmful practice of early marriage.

Within the framework of the cooperation, the Public Defender’s Office will continue to develop research-based recommendations for the state agencies and raise public awareness. The cooperation is being carried out within the framework of the UN Joint Programme for Gender Equality, which is being implemented with the support of Sweden.
