Public Defender Meets with Members of Women's Empowerment Network

On 6 February 2019, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria and Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze met with members of the Women's Empowerment Network and discussed the mandate of the Public Defender and gender equality issues.

The Public Defender briefly talked about the challenges relating to women's rights, including early marriage, difficulties relating to women’s participation in public life and involvement in politics, as well as the public attitude towards the gender equality issues.

During a dialogue, special attention was paid to the mechanisms of avoiding stereotypes, including the measures to be taken by the state for the elimination of domestic violence and child abuse. The young representatives of the network showed interest in the mandate of the Public Defende, as well as in how ofeten the Public Defender is addressed with regard to the gender issues.

The Women's Empowerment Network project was initiated by the Progress Center organization and is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The aim of the project is to link successful women and future leaders to one another.
