On November 2, 2017, representatives of the Department of Gender Equality and the Regional Department of the Public Defender's Office held a working meeting with the social workers of Telavi, Gurjaani, Akhmeta and Kvareli municipalities of the Social Service Agency of the Kakheti region.

The meeting focused on the challenges of domestic violence in the region, the experience of the Public Defender and the practical cases in this field. The legislative changes envisaged by the Istanbul Convention concerning the protection and assistance mechanisms for victims of violence against women and domestic violence were also discussed at the meeting.

In turn, social workers focused on the problems related to the working process, including the lack of human resources in light of the obligations undertaken to study and monitor the cases of gender violence.

The Department of Gender Equality of the Public Defender’s Office will continue to work in the direction of protection of women's rights and gender equality in the Kakheti region.
