Interactive Dialogue on Elimination of Violence against Women in Public Life

On March 17, 2021, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria participated in an online interactive dialogue dedicated to the elimination of violence against women in public life. The event was held as part of the 65th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

The topics of discussion during the interactive dialogue were how violence against women impacts women's participation in public life and what kind of intervention is needed to eliminate it. It was noted that violence against women in political and public life is of global scale and increases with the number of female decision makers. Consequently, more effective prevention and response measures are needed at the national level.

The interactive dialogue was led by Shilpa Pullela, Vice-Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women and was moderated by Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Nino Lomjaria spoke about the efforts of the Public Defender's Office aimed at eliminating violence against women in public life, reviewed the issues of cooperation with governmental agencies and experts and introduced the best practices, future plans and opportunities.

The participants discussed and shared their experiences about the policies, programmes and budgets of member states in the direction of elimination of violence against women in public life, coordination with the government, legal reforms and other specific measures for the elimination of violence.
