Deputy Public Defender of Georgia Meets with EU Delegation

Members of the EU Delegation - Mara Marinaki, EEAS principal advisor on gender/UNSCR 1325, and Taina Jarvinen, EU representative for human rights and gender, met with Ekaterine Skhiladze, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, at the Public Defender’s Office on June 15, 2017.

The Deputy Public Defender of Georgia briefed the guests of the Public Defender's mandate and efforts in the field of gender equality. She emphasized the direction of the UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and noted that the Public Defender devotes much attention to the monitoring of action plans and development of relevant recommendations, which is one of the main components of the action plan for the EU.

Ana Iuluridze, Head of the Department of Gender Equality of the Public Defender's Office, spoke about the legislative shortcomings, as well as the role and opportunities of the Public Defender's Office in the field of violence against women and domestic violence, including monitoring of the cases of femicide and meetings with target groups.

EU representative Mara Marinaki emphasized the importance of the Public Defender's activities in terms of campaigns and preventive measures, as well as the EU political and financial support.
