Public Defender Summarizes 10 Years of Activities of Equality Mechanism

The special report “Summary of 10 Years of Activities of the Equality Mechanism” reflects in detail the significant changes made to anti-discrimination legislation from the date of the establishment of the mechanism until May 2024, the important decisions and successful practices of the Public Defender, and the activities carried out to raise awareness.

Despite significant progress, the situation in terms of achieving equality in Georgia is not improving significantly. The report identifies systemic challenges that condition the above, among which the main hindering factor is the absence of a unified state vision and positive special policies focused on promoting equality. In addition, significant work remains to be done to raise awareness on equality issues.

The document declares the Public Defender's future goal to further intensify its activities in strengthening the equality mechanism in order to contribute to the creation of an equal society and more effective elimination of discrimination.
