Workshop on Integration of Refugees and Persons with Humanitarian Status

On November 2, 2017, First Deputy Public Defender Natia Katsitadze and UNHCR Regional Deputy Representative in South Caucasus Yoko Akasaka held a working meeting on the theme – “Implementation of the Law of Georgia on International Protection in terms of the integration of refugees and persons with humanitarian status. The meeting was held within the framework of the project - Support to the Public Defender's Office in Studying the Situation of Refugees, Persons with Humanitarian Status and Asylum Seekers.

First Deputy Public Defender Natia Katsitadze briefly reviewed the rights situation of refugees, persons with humanitarian status and asylum seekers. She noted that after the legislation was brought closer to the international standards, its implementation in practice was of special importance and it was necessary to work on the integration of persons under international protection; the Public Defender's parliamentary report 2017 will be more focused exactly on these issues.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, AccommodationandRefugees, the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Social Service Agency, the Secretariat of the Governmental Commission on Migration and the Center for Integration spoke about their efforts aimed at integrating refugees and persons with humanitarian status. Participants of the meeting discussed the successful activities aimed at integrating the person under international protection and the directions where more efforts are necessary to be taken by the state agencies, supporting NGOs and international organizations.

The meeting was held with the financial support of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in South Caucasus and the Public Defender of Georgia.
