Meeting with Representatives of Udi and Avar communities

On November 7, 2024, Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani met with the residents of the village of Zinobiani, inhabited by Udi people, and representatives of the Avar community living in the village of Tivi.

The importance of preserving the identity of ethnic minorities, their culture, and especially their native Udi and Avar languages was discussed at the meetings. The need for textbooks, both for students and teachers, was emphasized, as students learn their language with photocopies of outdated books published in the 80s of the last century. Infrastructural problems, including access to drinking water and public transport, as well as health services, were also noted at the meeting.

Deputy Public Defender Irine Chikhladze, as well as employees of the central and regional offices, took part in the meetings held with the population of the Kakheti region.
