Meeting with Parents of Kindergarten Children in Telavi Municipality
On January 31, 2020, Eter Shiukashvili and Natia Pitskhelauri, representatives of the Public Defender's Office of Eastern Georgia Division, met with parents of children of kindergartens of the Telavi municipality to discuss the rights of the child and child abuse.
Representatives of the Public Defender spoke about the mandate of the Public Defender, activities of the Department of the Rights of the Child, importance of the Code on the Rights of the Child, international and national legislation on child abuse and three-stage preventive measures against child abuse.
Parents emphasized the necessity of a psychologist’s service in kindergartens. Infrastructural situation of kindergartens was identified as a problem. Namely, educational environment, physical-infrastructural and sanitary-hygienic conditions are not properly provided, most of the kindergartens are not supplied with potable water and do not have proper yards. Children are not adequately provided with necessary items.
Representatives of the Public Defender will continue to hold meetings with parents of children of educational institutions in other municipalities as well.
