Meeting with Prosecutor General of Georgia

On September 3, 2020, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria met with Prosecutor General Irakli Shotadze. The parties talked about high-profile cases and plans for cooperation.

The main focus of Public Defender’s questions was the investigation into the death of young programmer Tamar Bachaliashvili. Nino Lomjaria inquired about the versions of the investigation relating to the cause of the programmer’s death.

"We talked about the chances of getting pictures taken from the satellite and as I was informed, active efforts are made for the above. As for the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Bureau refused to engage in the investigation of another country, considering its competence. The Prosecutor General noted that as part of international legal assistance, a number of requests had been sent to the relevant foreign organizations.

I cannot express my opinion or evaluate the investigation at this stage, until I do not see the case materials together with the lawyer,” - Nino Lomjaria said after the meeting.

Nino Lomjaria and Irakli Shotadze also talked about the investigations into the murder of Giorgi Shakarashvili and the dispersal of the June 20-21 rally, as well as the implementation of the recommendations issued by the Public Defender.

The Public Defender also requested access to the materials of the investigation into the pardon act issued by the President in 2019.
