Meeting with Members of Council of Europe’s Delegation
On 13 February 2019, Meri Kochlamazashvili, Advisor to the Public Defender for Human Rights in the Conflict-affected Regions, met with Daniil Khoshabo, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe, Marsel Capi, Advisor to the Directorate of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe, and Christian Urse, Head of the European Council Office in Georgia.
The Public Defender’s Advisor briefed the members of the delegation of the rights situation of conflict-affected population, the mandate of the Public Defender and the challenges faced by the Public Defender’s Office. She particularly focused on the rights situation of persons living in the occupied territories and the main challenges faced by them, such as freedom of movement, documentation-related problems, access to education and healthcare.
The aim of the meeting was the provision of information about the situation in Georgia's occupied territories for the 19th consolidated report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
Meri Kochlamazashvili thanked the Council of Europe on behalf of the Public Defender of Georgia for its involvement in the process of peaceful resolution of the conflict and highlighted the importance of proper assessment of human rights situation in the occupied territories by the international community.
