Meeting with Head and Representatives of OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission

On October 15, 2024, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Eoghan Murphy, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission, and discussed the progress of the pre-election campaign and the role and activities of the Office in connection with the election day.

The Public Defender talked about the mandate of the Office and the violations detected by the Office during the pre-election period, including the cases containing elements of alleged crime, the cases of interference with the activities of monitoring organizations and human rights defenders, the challenges in the direction of alleged restrictions of freedom of association and expression and the right to fair administrative proceedings. He also discussed the cases of alleged discrimination with political motives, pressure due to participation in various events and election campaigns, which have been studied by the Office.

The meeting was attended by First Deputy Public Defender of Georgia Tamar Gvaramadze, Deputy Head of the observation mission MarcellNagy and law analyst Ana Melikiani.

The election observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) arrived in Tbilisi at the invitation of the Georgian authorities to observe the October 26 parliamentary elections.
