Meeting with US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

On September 11, 2024, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, and Tamar Gvaramadze, First Deputy Public Defender, held meeting with H.E. Robin L. Dunnigan, U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the role and importance of the Public Defender in safeguarding human rights, with particular emphasis on the institution’s oversight responsibilities during the pre-election period and throughout the election process. The parties also highlighted the importance of preventing hate speech and ensuring that political debates are conducted safely and within the framework of ethical standards.

The Ambassador reaffirmed the U.S. administration's commitment to continued support for the Public Defender’s Office.

Additionally, the Ambassador introduced the newly appointed International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Director at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, Jamie Shufflebarger.

Corinne Rothblum, Deputy Director of the Democracy, Rights and Governance (DRG) Office at USAID/Georgia, was also present at the meeting.

Both parties expressed their readiness to deepen their partnership and collaboration.
