Meeting with Adjara Police Officers
On February 19, 2020, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria met with Konstantine Ananiashvili, Chief of the Adjara Police Department, as well as police officers, to discuss violence against women and domestic violence.
The topics of discussion were the challenges relating to domestic violence, rate of violence, human trafficking, overcrowding of centers for victims of domestic violence and lack of social workers. The meeting also focused on issues of sexual harassment, which was defined as an administrative offence last year.
The Public Defender showed interest in the needs of police officers for effective performance of duties and discussed the difficulties in terms of applying the existing legal framework in this context.
