Public Defender Holds Meetings in Marneuli Municipality
On 13 May 2019, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria and Deputies of the Public Defender, Giorgi Burjanadze and Ekaterine Skhiladze, visited the Crisis Center for Victims of Domestic Violence in Marneuli, viewed the building, talked with staff and received information about the referral procedure.
The newly opened Crisis Center for Victims of Domestic Violence provides legal advice, psychological counseling and social worker’s service to the beneficiaries.
At the meeting held at the Marneuli Public College with students and teachers of the region’s colleges, the Public Defender and her representatives discussed the challenges relating to gender equality in the municipality, integration of ethnic minorities, necessity of the knowledge of the state language and the right to education. Nino Lomjaria also provided the students with information about the Public Defender’s activities. The meeting was held in a question&answer mode.
The Marneuli Public College awarded the Public Defender a certificate of gratitude for the active efforts in the direction of civic equality in the region.
The Public Defender also met with representatives of NGOs, civil activists and Georgian language teachers at the Marneuli Center for Civic Engagement.
The topics of the meeting were the concerning situation of the engagement of women and ethnic minorities in the decision-making processes, which puts the efficiency of state policy on integration at risk.
