Statement of Public Defender’s Representatives on Arrested Persons

On May 13, representatives of the Public Defender visited 23 persons detained on the basis of Administrative Offences Code of Georgia in the vicinity of the Parliament of Georgia.

Unfortunately, practically all of them indicate violence from the police and have injuries. In particular, 22 out of the 23 detainees indicate ill-treatment by the police, and 16 of them request an investigation by the Special Investigation Service.

The Public Defender’s Office will monitor the progress of the investigation, continue to visit the detainees and provide information to the public.
