Deputy Public Defender Meets with members of PACE Monitoring Committee

On June 2, 2021, Tamar Gvaramadze and Giorgi Burjanadze, Deputies of the Public Defender of Georgia, met with members of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Attacks on the Public Defender, recent problems with communication and cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the attitude of the legislaturive body towards the shortcomings of the judicial reform, as well as media environment, frequent attacks on journalists, ineffective investigation of these attacks, investigation of election violations and cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office were discussed at the meeting.

The Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe periodically visits Georgia and gets information about the human rights situation personally from the Public Defender.
