Public Defender’s Department of the Rights of the Child Working on 2022-2025 Strategy and Action Plan

On August 2-3, 2022, representatives of the structural units of the Public Defender’s Office held a meeting to develop the strategy of the Public Defender’s Department of the Rights of the Child and to determine the priorities, goals, tasks and main activities of the 2022-2025 action plan.

The issues discussed are of great importance for the effective implementation of the authority of the Public Defender, popularization of children’s rights and promotion of their unwavering protection.

The meeting was held within the framework of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) project “Strengthening the Capacities of the Public Defender of Georgia” and it was chaired by political expert Ana Kvernadze.

On August 4 and 5, with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), experts Ana Arganashvili and Ana Abashidze held training for the employees of the Public Defender’s Office, the theme of which was communication with children. The activities to be implemented within the framework of the authority of the Public Defender, including aspects of communication with children with child-tailored approaches, were discussed during the training. It should also be noted that with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund and the involvement of experts, it is planned to create an internal guidance document on aspects of communication with children.

The activities carried out by the Public Defender’s Office, with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund, taking into account the best interests of the child, are essentially important for protecting children’s rights, introducing systemic approaches tailored to them and promoting activities of the Public Defender’s Office.
