Public Defender Meets with EU Ambassador to Georgia
On June 17, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani and First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze met with EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński.
Implementation of measures and obligations for Georgia's accession to the European Union and the role of the Public Defender in the above process were discussed at the meeting.
The parties also talked about the expected consequences of the enforcement of the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, the condition of those arrested and injured during the protests against the law, including those still in pretrial detention, and the progress of the examination of their cases by the Special Investigation Service.
The EU Ambassador also showed interest in the monitoring mandate of the Public Defender’s Office at the parliamentary elections and the prevention of the harmful practice of using hate speech during the pre-election campaign.
