Meeting of Representatives of Public Defender's Office at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University
In order to popularize the activities and key findings of the Public Defender of Georgia in higher education institutions, on May 11, 2022, representatives of the Public Defender's Office of Georgia held a meeting at the Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. The meeting was jointly organized by the Public Defender of Georgia and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the theme of the meeting was: “Human Rights in Georgia: Challenges and Progress”.
The meeting was attended by the university academic staff, students, civic education teachers and representatives of the local media. Giorgi Burjanadze, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, and Lela Javakhishvili, a representative of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, delivered opening remarks.
The meeting was held in the discussion format and participants talked about the key findings of the 2021 Parliamentary Report of the Public Defender and the challenges of human rights education in undergraduate law programmes. In addition, attention was paid to the mandate of the National Preventive Mechanism and the specifics of its activities.
The Public Defender of Georgia will continue to hold meetings with higher education institutions in order to popularize her activities and findings and promote their application in educational practice.
