On December 12, 2016, Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili met with the Chairpersonof the Parliament’sHuman Rights and Civil Integration Committee, Sophio Kiladze. The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Public Defender Natia Katsitadze, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze and Public Defender's Parliamentary Secretary Ekaterine Popkhadze.

The current and important issues relating to human rights, as well as the Public Defender's legislative proposals, were discussed at the meeting. Particular attention was paid to the amendments made to the Law on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination on the basis of the Public Defender's proposal, which concerned the strengthening of the role of the Public Defender as the equality body.

Future prospects of listening to the Public Defender’s report and conduct of committee hearings about the implementation of the Public Defender's recommendations were also considered at the meeting.

The Chairpersonof theHuman Rights and Civil Integration Committee expressed readiness for active cooperation with the Public Defender’s Office.
