Public Defender Meets with Human Rights Commissioner in Strasbourg

Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili met with Human Rights Commissioner Nils Muižnieks in Strasbourg on April 27, 2017. The Public Defender briefed the Human Rights Commissioner of the human rights situation in the occupied territories and the cases of detention of Georgian citizens during crossing the administrative boundary line.

Ucha Nanuashvili emphasized the necessity of establishing an independent investigative mechanism in Georgia, the need for labour inspection and improvement of the anti-discrimination law.

The Public Defender reviewed the current situation of the judiciary of Georgia and deficiencies in the system. He also provided the Human Rights Commissioner with information about recommendations and opinions concerning the constitutional amendments.
