Public Defender Attends GANHRI Bureau Meeting in Berlin

On October 12-14, 2016, the Bureau of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) held a meeting in the German capital Berlin. Georgian Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili attended the meeting under the status of a plenipotentiary representative of the European region. During the 3-day meeting, bureau members considered new three-year strategic plan, regional challenges and current reports of the organization.

Discussions focused on strategic issues and ongoing projects. Bureau members also discussed issues related to accreditation, including the changes in the alliance status and activities of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA).

The Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions is an international association, which unites human rights institutions from 4 regions - Africa, America, Asia and Europe. The alliance is managed by a bureau composed of four institutions (A status accredited) from each region. The Public Defender of Georgia, together with human rights national institutions of Germany, Finland and Croatia, was elected as a representative of the European region for a three-year term on 22 March 2016.
