Information Meeting on Gender Issues
On May 23, 2017, the Department of Gender Equality of the Public Defender's Office of Georgia, together with the Regional Department, held an information meeting on sexual harassment in the Telavi municipal assembly. The meeting was attended by the employees and members of the municipal assembly. The aim of the information meeting was to raise awareness of the staff of the municipal assembly about the issues of sexual harassment in the workplace and in public space.
During the meeting, representatives of the Public Defender of Georgia provided the definition of sexual harassment and spoke about its forms, myths related to it and local and international regulations. In addition, they provided information about the UN Women’s electronic course on sexual harassment, which can be accessed through the Public Defender's website, and underlined its importance.
It should be noted that the employees of the Telavi municipal assembly had little information about sexual harassment, its forms and consequences. They showed interest in the country’s statistics, court practice and protection mechanisms.
The Department of Gender Equality of the Public Defender's Office continues to raise awareness of sexual harassment in the workplace and in public space.
