Statement on Police Measures

It is noteworthy that in recent days, information has been circulating in the media and social networks that law enforcement officers continue to conduct police measures, including frisk searches, in the metro, which causes dissatisfaction and arguments with passengers.

We call on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to strictly comply with the rules when conducting police measures, including frisk searches provided for by the Law of Georgia on Police, and not to conduct searches of citizens without the grounds established by the law.

A frisk search of a person involves touching only the outer surface of his clothing with hands, special tools or equipment. In addition, a police officer is obliged to draw up a special document when conducting a frisk search.

The hotline of the Public Defender's Office - 14 81 - operates 24 hours a day to receive reports of human rights violations.
