Public Defender of Georgia Meets with Secretary General of Council of Europe
On June 27, 2024, as part of his official visit to Strasbourg, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The issues discussed at the meeting included human rights situation in Georgia, challenges related to freedom of the media, freedom of assembly and expression, enjoyment of the right to social security and equality.
The working environment created for human rights defenders and human rights organizations and the activities of the Public Defender’s Office in the current pre-election period were other topics of discussion at the meeting.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe showed interest in the possibility of the future involvement of the Public Defender in the process of enforcement of the newly adopted Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence and listened to evaluations related to the law.
