The Competition held by the Public Defender of Georgia
On June 1, 2011 - the International Children’s Day, the Public Defender launches a competition “Me - the Ombudsman” 2011. “Me - the Ombudsman” is a competition organized by the Public Defender in the area of human rights protection for youth at the age of 13-18.
The competition is held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science. The financial support for the competition is provided by the project of European Union “Support to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia”.
The teams consisting of two public school pupils are eligible for the competition. Participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the rules of the game, get registered, and answer questions from the area of human rights till June 25.
The competition “Me - the Ombudsman” consists of three rounds. The first two rounds will be held via the website, with the registered teams sending their answers in the online mode, while the third round will be hosted by the Public Defender’s Office. The participants who make it to the final round will receive closed envelopes with a certain hypothetical case from the area of human rights to which they must give a written answer within three hours without leaving the building.
In order to take part in the competition, pupils need to have motivation and analytical skills, and they have to find the nearest computer connected to the Internet.
The winning teams will be awarded with personal computers and other solid prizes.
The competition “Me - the Ombudsman” was first held in 2010. All the three top places were taken by the public school pupils from Imereti region. The Public Defender of Georgia, George Tugushi, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkin, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Per Eklund, awarded the prize-winning participants.
