On July 16-17, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani visited the Racha region and held meetings in Ambrolauri and Oni.

The Public Defender met with representatives of civil society organizations operating in Ambrolauri and spoke about the issues reflected in the 2023 Parliamentary Report on the Situation of Human Rights and Freedoms in Georgia; briefly reviewed the human rights challenges identified during the year and the recommendations given to the relevant agencies to solve them. The participants in the meeting held a discussion regarding the situation of human rights protection in the municipality and the needs of the population, as well as the challenges faced by non-governmental organizations.

At the information meetings held in Ambrolauri and Oni, the Public Defender introduced the mandate of the Office to public schools students and youth, talked about the rights of the child, legal mechanisms to eliminate harmful practices of early marriage and engagement, bullying and its likely consequences, violence against women and access to health services. He also explained to children how the police should behave when dealing with minors and what rights children enjoy when they are stopped by the police. He also informed them who they should turn to if they think that their or any other child's rights are being violated.

Later, the Public Defender visited the Oni synagogue, built 130 years ago. It no longer has a religious function due to the small number of the congregation and represents a monument of cultural heritage of Georgia. At the meeting with representatives of the Jewish community, among other things, the need related to the rehabilitation of the synagogue was discussed.
