Public Defender’s Official Meetings in Council of Europe

Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani is paying an official visit to the city of Strasbourg, France, where he is holding meetings in the Council of Europe on May 22-24.

On May 22, the Public Defender met with the President of the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR), Aoife Nolan, the Head of the Department of the European Social Charter, Jan Malinowski, Program Coordinator Margarita Galstyan and CoE-FRA-ENNHRI-EQUINET Platform representative Tanya Montanari.

The topics of discussion at the meetings included the rights protected by the Social Charter, including social security, education, health care, the rights of older persons and the situation of the homeless, as well as the alternative reports that the Public Defender periodically submits to the Council of Europe's Committee of Social Rights. The close cooperation in this direction between the Committee and the Public Defender’s Office was emphasized.

Within the framework of the visit, meetings are also scheduled with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, Dunja Mijatović, the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the Department for the Execution ofJudgments of the European Court of Human Rights, the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR), the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI), the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) and other high-ranking officials working on human rights issues.
