Public Defender of Georgia Met with a Representative from the United States Senate
On August 30, 2019, Nino Lomjaria, the Public Defender of Georgia, met with Hannah Thoburn, Professional Staff Member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Lomjaria and Thoburn discussed human rights in Georgia, including the challenges facing Georgian citizens living in occupied territories and along the Administrative Boundary Line. They also discussed the involvement of the Public Defender in the investigation of events that occurred June 20-21, conditions in penitentiary institutions, and issues surrounding pluralism in the media environment.
Tamar Gvaramia, First Deputy Public Defender, and Juan Aparicio, Political Officer of the U.S. Embassy, also attended the meeting.
