Amicus Curiae Brief on Importance of Access to Environmental Information

On October 7, 2024, the Public Defender of Georgia submitted an amicus curiae brief to the Judge of the Tbilisi City Court’s Collegium of Administrative Cases relating to the case launched on the basis of the lawsuit of LLC Network of Information Centers.

The purpose of the amicus curiae brief is to share information on the standards established by the Constitution and international standards, including the Aarhus Convention, on access to environmental information.

The Public Defender believes that it is critically important for the court, as the only effective supervisory institution for the protection of freedom of information, to consider the possibility of fulfilling the obligations established for the country under the Aarhus Convention and separating information on the state of the environment kept by investigative agencies and providing it to the interested party, for the purposes of properly realizing the right to access information on the state of the environment.
